The community Breitbrunn as the "entrance gate to the Haßberge Nature Park", is idyllically situated in a side valley of the Mains, in the southern part of the Haßberge district in Lower Franconia, surrounded by beautiful forests and many hiking trails. The place is nestled between the Stachel natural forest reserve and the FFH area Haßbergetrauf.

background

The first evidence of settlement was found in the Veitenstein cave on the 460 m high Lußberg. A shaving point and a stone ax from the Neolithic (4000-2000 BC) were found here. Breitbrunn was first mentioned in a document between 1112 and 1123 when the Benedictine Abbey of St. Michael in Bamberg acquired an estate at "Breytenbrunnen".

The place has belonged to since 1814 Bavaria and through the administrative reforms of 1818, today's municipality was created.

In July 2019 Breitbrunn won the competition "Our village has a future" within the Haßberge district.[1]

The community is part of the Haßberge Nature Park, has been part of the administrative association since 1978 Ebelsbach, and is divided into ten districts:
