Burgpreppach market is a community in Lower Franconia in the district Hatred Mountains. The community and its districts are idyllically located in a side valley of the Baunach and with just 38 km² there are two castles and a ruined castle on a former volcanic cone. In addition, countless cycling and hiking trails cross the community.

background

The Burgpreppach market was first mentioned in the 8th century as the property of Count of Henneberg. In 1548 the castle and the village came into the possession of the family Fuchs from Bimbach and Dornheim. The place was raised to market by the Würzburg bishop in 1699. The place fell to Bavaria in 1814 and in 1818, as part of the administrative reform, the present-day community was created.

The community is part of the Haßberge Nature Park, Member of the administrative association Hofheim in Lower Franconia and is divided into 16 districts:

The castle was built according to plans by Joseph Greissing (Court architect of the Prince-Bishop of Würzburg). The staircase was built in 1731 according to the plans of Balthasar Neumann designed. The first written mention of a predecessor castle was in 1108, which was destroyed by imperial orders as early as 1168 due to alleged robber baronism. A new defense system was built from 1250 by the Würzburg prince-bishop. During the Peasant War in 1525 the Bramburg was damaged by the rebels and from 1560 it was left to decay. Behind the gate are the remains of the former farm buildings on the left, and the ruins of the main building on the right. The double ring ditches around the complex are partially preserved, which are probably from the previous castle from the 11th century. The ruins are mainly from the late Gothic period.
