Bundorf is a community in Lower Franconia on the northern edge of the district Hatred Mountains. The region is very rural, with almost half of the area being forest. The municipality is covered by the Baunach flowed through and is bordered by the north and west of the Bundorfer or to the Rottensteiner Forest. Peace and quiet in one of the most sparsely populated areas in West Germany is guaranteed.

Bundorf was first mentioned in a document in 1170. The noble family Truchsessen from Wetzhausen Occupied in Bundorf since 1343, it is still owned by Bundorf Castle today. In 1814 the area fell to Bavaria. The community and its districts have existed since 1978.
Important: Street names and house numbers have been changed in the community, some of which have not yet been taken over from the online maps (as of Feb. 2020).
The community is part of the Haßberge Nature Park, Member of Administrative community Hofheim i. UFr. and is divided into 6 districts:

By plane
The next international airports are the Nuremberg Airport (approx. 111 km), the Erfurt-Weimar Airport (approx. 124 km) and the Frankfurt Airport (200 km).
By train
- 1 Hassfurt train station, Bahnhofstrasse, 97437 Haßfurt. The train station south of Bundorf, about 25 km away, is on the railway line Wurzburg - Bamberg. From here you can get to the next two larger train stations, Bamberg and Würzburg, and their IC / ICE connections. In addition to the regional trains (RB), the regional express (RE) also stop in Haßfurt.
- Further train stations are located in Bad Rodach (30 km), Bad Neustadt an der Saale (32 km) and Boars (30 km).
By bus
Bundorf and its districts are served by local public transport VGN Transport association serving the greater Nuremberg area. Tickets can be purchased directly from the driver, online and via an app and are within the Line network in the district of Haßberge valid in almost all modes of transport. The Bayern ticket from German train is also accepted by the regional bus companies that serve the community. Please make sure that some bus connections are canceled during the school holidays.

The villages are scattered in the hills of the Haßberge and are better by car or by public transport VGN Transport association for the greater Nuremberg area can be reached. The use of public transport is only possible to a very limited extent, as the VGN only serves the community with a few bus routes.

- 1 Bundorf Palace (Corps de logis) (Private property), Schlossallee, 97494 Bundorf. Three-winged castle complex with corner core and round stair tower. After the Peasants' War, the castle was used as a moated castle by the old Franconian noble family around 1565 Truchseß von Wetzhausen rebuilt. It still serves as the family residence to this day. It consists of a baroque north building (around 1700) and the three-storey south wing.
- 2 Stöckach castle complex (Private property), Lauterbachstrasse, 97494 Bundorf (OT Stöckach). The two-storey, single-wing main building was built by Ernst von Hettersdorf in 1730/33. The arched castle gate is located in the entrance area of the complex. In 1976 the film "Chinese Roulette" by Rainer Werner Fassbinder was shot at Stöckach Castle.
Churches
- 3 Evangelical Lutheran Parish Church, Schweinshaupten 27, 97494 Bundorf (OT pig's heads). Tel.: 49 (0)9523 6266. Even before 1104 there was an independent parish church here, which was replaced by today's large church in 1447, built on behalf of the then ruling Fuchs family. From 1589 the church received a tower with an onion dome (tower base from the 16th century). The facility was rebuilt several times - in 1734 and again in 1879/81.
- 4 Catholic Parish Church of the Holy Trinity and St. Lawrence, Hauptstrasse 11, 97494 Bundorf. Baroque church with facade tower, built in 1731 by Johann Georg Danzer and Johann Georg Bierdümpfel.
- 5 Catholic branch church of St. Nicholas, Kimmelsbach 27, 97494 Bundorf (OT Kimmelsbach). The church was built from 1758 to 1763 and the nave was extended in 1908. In 1948 the painter Wolf Willy from Würzburg created the new St. Nicholas picture as a ceiling painting. Inside there is a beautiful St. Mary's altar, next to the church on the west side is the cemetery.
- 6 Catholic Kuratiekirche Heilig Kreuz, Neuses 44, 97494 Bundorf (OT Neuses). The church with facade tower and onion dome was built in 1743 according to plans by Johann Georg Danzer and restored in 1898.
- 7 Catholic palace chapel St. Matthew, Stöckach 34, 97494 Bundorf (OT Stöckach). Built in 1791/94 by the Lords of Hettersdorf (consecrated in 1795) with a hall and a central facade tower with a bell roof. The organ built by Joh.Andreas Hofmann in 1798.
Jewish life
- 8 Jewish Cemetery, mountains (Pig's heads). The cemetery is located northeast of Schweinshaupten on a small hill at the edge of the forest with 119 gravestones. A plaque commemorates the former Jewish community that existed on site until 1935.

Biking and hiking trails
- Friedrich Rückert hiking trail: The name-giving hiking trail (145 km) by the German poet, language scholar, translator and founder of German oriental studies Friedrich Rückert born in Schweinfurt. The route runs through Bundorf, Stöckach and Schweinshaupten.
To the west of the districts of Stöckach and Walchenfeld lies the Rottenstein Forest. The following hiking trails run through it:
- The Run away runs for a total of 63 km from Hallstadt (near Bamberg) to Sulzfeld im Grabfeld and is suitable for both hikers and bike rides (→ route).
- The long-distance hiking trail Celtic adventure trail: is a total of 245 km. His route runs along the western edge of the Haßberge Nature Park and partly follows the Rennweg mentioned above.

- 9 Natural bathing lake: Located east of the OT Schweinshaupten on the way to Youth campsite. The lake is fed from a spring and is well suited for swimming.
- 10 Orchards in Stöckach
- 11 Biotope landscape at Höllgraben near Kimmelsbach: The Höllgraben pulls away from the Baunach west to the Rottenstein forest over approx. 3.5 km. A forest path follows the Höllgraben parallel across a small meadow valley with a stream and an alder book forest.
- 12 Bundorf forest and source streams of the Baunach: A FFH area, which is located northwest of Bundorf, with extensive deciduous forest (oak, beech, alder and ash).
