The province Leon lies in the autonomous region Castile and Leon. Neighboring provinces are Palencia, Valladolid and Zamora, the Galician Provinces Ourense and Lugo, as well as the regions Asturias and Cantabria.

General
The north of the province of León is dominated by the Cantabrian Mountains. In the west it is the mountain range of the Sierra de los Ancares, it is only almost 2,000 m high. The Picos de Europa reach in the east with the Torre de Cerredo an altitude of 2,648 m. The mountainous west of the province belongs to the Galician massif, the majority of the province is to be assigned to the Castilian Meseta.
