Big logos are loved in the Eifel

Many routes are demanding because of the low mountain range. The rather flat, large river routes on the Rhine and Moselle sometimes run alongside busy federal roads. In terms of landscape, however, the routes are attractive.

In addition to the seven major long-distance cycle routes along the rivers, there are 78 official themed routes in Rhineland-Palatinate. There are also excellent routes with low inclines in the low mountain ranges, e.g. old railway lines that have been developed as cycle paths. The very good connections to the Vennbahn with connection to the Belgian and Luxembourg cycle path network. The quality of the paths is significantly better compared to other federal states. Gravel, mud or mud are rare and the bike paths are paved.

  • Rhineland-Palatinate cycle route
  • 3-country route - Between the Eifel and the Ardennes, in Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg through “The green heart of Europe”, the 3-country route leads on the 250 km long route from Aachen to Trier. The route has been set up by the Eifelverein and has no standardized signposting. It should attract cyclists to the Eifel.

Plein Viaduct (Mosel-Maare-Radweg)
  • 5 valleys tour - German-Luxembourg route, 115 km along the small rivers Nims, Sauer, Prüm and Kyll as well as the Moselle
  • Brohltal cycle path - the 32 km long route leads from Burgbrohl to Hohenleimbach. One section runs on the B 412.
  • Eifel-Ardennes cycle path - from Steinebrück on the German-Belgian border via Prüm and Daun to the Nürburgring. A highlight of the route is the 400 m long Bleialfer tunnelwhich can be passed between April 1st and October 31st. Because of its curve, the structure appears longer than it is. The route is paved and is of high quality up to Prüm.
  • Eifel high route · - difficult tour through the northern heights of the Eifel.
  • Enz cycle path - 45 km from Pronsfeld in the Prümtal Neuerburg to Holsthum in the Prümtal (23 km of which are railway cycle paths with two tunnels of 116 and 125 m in length). There is a connection to the Prümtal cycle path at both ends. The route leads "over the mountains" and is partly a farm road, partly a pure bike path. The ceiling is asphalt or concrete.
  • Kalkeifel cycle path - 22 km long cross connection between Kylltal cycle path at Bolsdorf and the Ahr cycle path near Ahrdorf, which partly uses a former railway line.
  • Kylltal cycle path - 130 km through the Eifel from Hellenthal to trier.
  • Little Kyll Cosmos Cycle Path - 21 km, 45 m up, 96 m down. The winding, mostly family-friendly, level route leads almost entirely on its own from the Daun spa park via Pützborn, Oberstadtfeld, Niederstadtfeld and Schutz to Meerfeld and enables a circular route with the Maare-Moselle cycle path via Manderscheid. The valley of the Little Kyll runs parallel to the Liesertal. Cosmos bike path
  • Maifeld cycle path - 21 km from Ochtendung to Münstermaifeld in the Maifeld region, paved and up to one kilometer on a railway line. With the junction after Mayen there are 8 km more.
  • Maare-Moselle cycle path - Attractive bike path that the Vulkaneifel at Down with the Moselle valley Bernkastel-Kues connects. The paved route runs largely on a former railway line with tunnels and viaducts. Leisure buses with bicycle transport run parallel to the route every day.
  • Mineral springs route - Selling connection between the Ahr cycle path and the Maare-Moselle cycle path in Down.
  • Nimstal cycle path - The 65 km route features sandstone sculptures and plenty of beer in Bitburg. Those who follow the Nims to its end will end up at the Prüm Irrel.
  • Prümtal cycle path - The village of the same name is also located in the valley of the Prüm River. The 98 km long route, which has numerous interesting connections, is unfortunately quite steep in parts, which is due to the fact that it does not stay in the valley. From the place Prüm A shorter railway cycle path to Waxweiler starts from here, where the glory is over.

Hunsrück

  • Schinderhannes cycle path - 37 km long, attractive railway route on asphalted route in the Hunsrück, from Emmelshausen to Simmern. Train and bicycle buses connect the route.

Rheinhessen

  • Amiche - The paved circular route runs between Bodenheim near Mainz, Nierstein and Hahnheim in the Selztal. There is a connection to the Selztal cycle path towards Ingelheim or Alzey. For the most part, the route runs on two railway lines.
  • Appelbach cycle path - The 42 km long route, which runs off the beaten track, starts in Marienthal north of the Donnersberg. From here the route follows the Appelbach valley to its confluence with the Nahe, north of Bad Kreuznach. The cycle route uses quiet to moderately traveled country roads on longer stretches.
  • Hiwwel route - Very hilly, but scenic zigzag course through Rheinhessen with a length of 165 km and almost 1500 m ascent.
  • Mill cycle path 42 km long cross connection from Framersheim on the Selztal cycle path to the Rhine valley to Gimbsheim. The route meets the Rhine Cycle Path near Rheindürckheim.
  • Fruit route - Hilly circuit from Ingelheim train station with a length of 45 km and 420 m ascent.
  • Rheinterrassen route between Worms and Mainz-Laubenheim along the vineyards as an alternative to the Rhine cycle path.
  • Selztal cycle path 65 km through Rheinhessen from the Selzquelle near Orbis via Alzey to Ingelheim to the Rhine.

Palatinate

  • German-French Pamina cycle path Lautertal 58 km, plus 21 km parallel guided tour in France, route Hinterweidenthal (train station) on the Pirminius cycle path - Wissembourg - Neuburgweier near Neuburg am Rhein. 4 km water-bound surface, otherwise asphalt, largely low gradient. The southern alternative on the French side uses a former railway line.Pfalzwein e.V.

  • Fritz-Wunderlich-Weg - 24 km of unpaved railway cycle path from Freisen to Altenglan, which commemorates the singer who died early.
  • Glan-Blies cycle path - 126 km (73 km in Rhineland-Palatinate, 252 m up, 381 m down). Route: Sarreguemines (He found Saar - Blieskastel - Homburg - Waldmohr - Altenglan - Meisenheim - Staudernheim an der Near near Bad Sobernheim. Strictly speaking, a double river path along the two rivers Blies and Glan, whereby the Blies only plays the role of the accompanying river on the first stage in the Saarland. Overall, a nice, quiet route with good quality paths and largely free traffic. The rail route is approx. 45 km, the second track serves one on approx. 40 km Draisine operation.
  • Cabbage and beet bike path - The 137 km long cycle route runs east of the German Wine Route, a little winding, from Bockenheim to Schweigen-Rechtenbach on the French border. The route itself is mostly on car-free farm roads and is very well signposted throughout.
  • Queich cycle path - 58 km, 274 m upwards, 447 m downwards From Queichquelle near Hauenstein via Landau to Germersheim to the confluence with the Rhine Pfalzwein e.V.

Bicycles can be taken on trains

In Rhineland-Palatinate, bicycles can be taken on trains Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. and on weekends all day free. A bicycle ticket for € 5 must be purchased before 9 a.m.

This is available for all of Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and the city of Wiesbaden Rhineland-Palatinate ticket for all local transport from € 24. It applies to 1 to 5 people (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m., Saturday and Sunday all day). It cannot be bought at the RMV ticket machines in Hessen. In this case, the ticket can be bought on the train or bus. It also applies in Wiesbaden, for both Rhine routes between Mainz / Wiesbaden and Koblenz, on the left bank of the Rhine to Bonn, as well as on the Lahn Valley Railway to Limburg, the two Westerwald Railway in Hesse and to Wissenbourg and Lauterbourg in France.

Bicycles can be taken on recreational buses

  • RegioRadler in the Hunsrück and Eifel - The Regio-Radler operate on 9 lines on both sides of the Moselle and extend as far as the Rhine Bingen, the Nahe in Saarland Turquoise mill and the Kyll in Gerolstein.
