- Khao Yai National Park. The oldest and one of the largest and most famous national parks in Thailand - lush jungle, waterfalls, numerous wild animals; the northern part of the park is in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
background
Nakhon Ratchasima is the largest province in Thailand, it is about the size of the German state Saxony-Anhalt. In history, the region formed the border area between Siam (forerunner of today's Thailand) and the Khmer Empire (forerunner of today's Cambodia) and changed affiliations between the two several times. As a result, the province's cultural heritage is shaped on both sides. It forms a transition between central and northeastern Thailand (Isan). Administratively, it is already counted to the northeast, but no Isan dialect is spoken here and the culture and cuisine are more like those of central than northeast Thailand.
