Phatthalung has a train station on the southern line of the Thai Railway.

There are five trains a day from Bangkok, of which the fastest takes about 12½ hours as scheduled. On the slower trains (Rapid), a 3rd class seat costs 247 baht, and an air-conditioned second class sleeper seat costs 728 baht. On the faster trains (Special Express) a seat costs 327-678, a 2nd class sleeping car seat (open-plan compartment) 808-918, and 1st class (separate compartment) 1335-1535 Baht.

Of Surat Thani there are seven trains a day, according to the plan it takes 3½ to 4½ hours to travel, in slow trains the journey is free, in Special Express it costs 232–406 baht. Of Nakhon Si Thammarat There are two slow trains a day that take 2:20 hours, the journey is free. Of Has yai there are ten trains a day and the journey takes between 1:10 and two hours. In the Special Express the journey (including meal) costs 351 baht, in the slow one Ordinary it is again free of charge.

  • Wat Tham Khuha Sawan. Buddhist temple complex in the northeast of the city, at the foot of the Khao Ok Talu, richly decorated, in a grotto there are interesting golden Buddha figures.
  • Residence of the provincial princes and governors (วัง เจ้า เมือง พัทลุง - Wang Chao Müang Phatthalung). Consists of the Old Palace (Wang Kao), an ensemble of traditional wooden houses, and the New Palace (Wang Mai) from 1889.Open: Wed-Sun 9 am-4pm.Price: Entry 50 baht.
  • Khao Kang. Small rock on the hospital grounds, in which there is a cave with Buddha statues (Tham Phra Phuttharup) is located.
  • Khao Ok Thalu. The striking karst formation east of the city is the landmark of Phatthalung. Stairs lead to the 177 meter high summit, on which there is a Buddhist shrine and from which one has a wonderful view over the city and up to the Thale Luang. The name of the rock means "pierced chest". Together with Khao Hua Taek ("broken head"), located just north of the city, it is the subject of a legend about two women who fought for their lover, seriously injured each other and were then petrified.
  • Wat Khao Daeng Tawan Ok. Very small, old, picturesque temple nestled against the rock, Mu 5, Tambon Phaya Khan (approx. 5 km northeast of the city center, behind the Khao Ok Thalu).

Wat Khian Bang Kaeo
  • Wat Wang, in Lam Pam, 8 km east of Phatthalung on road 4047. Temple complex from the early Rattanakosin period with an elegant chedi and beautifully preserved frescoes.
  • Wat Khian Bang Kaeo, in Chong Thanon, Amphoe Khao Chaison, 26 km southeast of Phatthalung. Very old temple (early Ayutthaya period) with elegant Sri Lankan style chedi (similar to Chedi Phra Borommathat in Nakhon Si Thammarat, but smaller).

  • On the banks of the Thale Noi, 26 km northeast of the city, there is a large one Bird sanctuary with the possibility of bird watching. The best time to visit is in February or March, when the countless lotus flowers bloom on the lake.
