The Isan dialect is predominantly spoken in the north of the province and the Khmer language in the south. Standard Thai is used as a Lingua franca understood everywhere. English is not widely spoken.

The nearest airport is in Buri Ram, from there there are shuttles to Surin.
The railway line runs through the province Bangkok–Nakhon Ratchasima–Ubon Ratchathani with six long-distance trains per day in each direction. The main stops in this province are Surin and Sikhoraphum.

Prasat Sikhoraphum
- 1 Prasat Sikhoraphum (ปราสาท ศีขรภูมิ). Ruins of a Khmer temple from the 12th century, the same period as Angkor Wat. The small town of Sikhoraphum is 35 kilometers east of the provincial capital on the national road 226 and has a station on the Surin – Si Sa Ket railway line (13 connections daily; journey time is scheduled to be around 25 to 40 minutes); from the train station it is 1.6 km to the temple complex.
- 2 Prasat Hin Ban Phluang (ปราสาท หิน บ้าน พลวง). Hindu sanctuary from the 11th century: sandstone prang on a cross-shaped laterite base, surrounded by a water basin and manicured lawn. The ornate reliefs on the gable show a scene from the legend Krishnavatarin which Krishna raises Mount Govardhana. In Amphoe Prasat, a good 30 km south of Surin on the national road 214 (4 km south of Ban Prasat).Open: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
- Ta Mueang Complex, with several Khmer temple ruins, directly on the border with Cambodia in Amphoe Phanom Dong Rak, approx. 80 km southwest of Surin, on the road No. 2407 (10 km south of Ban Ta Miang). Danger! This plant is Subject of the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia.
- 3 Prasat Ta Muen (ปราสาท ตา เมือ น)
- 4 Prasat Ta Muen Tot (ปราสาท ตา เมือ น โต๊ด)
- 5 Prasat Ta Moan Thom (ปราสาท ตา เมือ น ธ ม). Laterite temple complex from the 11th century on the pass of the same name over the Dong-Rak Mountains. One kilometer southeast of Prasat Ta Muean Tot; According to the Cambodian view, it is already across the border, but is only accessible from the Thai side.
- 6 Prasat Yai Ngao (ปราสาท ยาย เหงา). In Amphoe Sangkha; 55 km southeast of Surin; just off the national road 24 (Thanon Chokchai - Det Udom), just under 5 km east of Sangkha.
