Nakhon Nayok(Thai: นครนายก, "Capital of the leader") is a city and a province in Central Thailand.

The nearest airports are Bangkok-Don Mueang (DMK; 85 km west) and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK; 95 km southwest). For the taxi ride from Don Mueang you have to calculate about 850 Baht, from Suvarnabhumi 1000 Baht (plus 50 Baht airport surcharge).

From Bangkok's northern Bus station Mo Chit Regular buses run to Nakhon Nayok every half hour, the journey takes two hours and costs 70 baht. Alternatively, there are private company buses eight times a day Aran, here a ride costs 133 baht. From the traffic junction Rangsit north of Bangkok (at the large shopping center Futurepark) minivans drive to Nakhon Nayok for 50 baht (travel time 1½ hours).

A taxi from Bangkok to Nakhon Nayok costs around 1100–1200 baht.

There is a train station in the small village of Ban Pak Phli in the extreme south-east of the Nakhon Nayok province; it can be reached five times a day by slow train from Bangkok in 2-3 hours. It is about an hour's drive from Chachoensao and just a few minutes from Prachin Buri. Twice a day there is even a continuous train from Aranyaprathet at the Cambodian border, the journey takes around three hours as planned. However, Ban Pak Phli Railway Station is 20 km away from Nakhon Nayok City and there is no regular public transport service.

The most important means of transport for travelers are tuk-tuks (motor rickshaws), they are mainly found at the bus station. Outside the provincial capital, you can practically only get around by private means of transport (e.g. rental car).

  • San Lak Mueang (ศาลหลักเมือง). The city pillar (Lak Müang).

The north and east of the province at the foot of the mountains are particularly interesting for tourists Khao Yai National Park. In addition to the impressive mountain panorama, there are several waterfalls and well-tended nature parks:

  • 1 Wat Khiri Wan(วัด คีรี วัน), 9 km northeast of the provincial capital, on road No. 3239
  • The 2 Sarika waterfalls(น้ำตก สา ริกา) are located 15 kilometers northeast of the provincial capital on road no. 3049.
Wang Takrai Falls
  • Another 9 km northeast, on road no. 3049 is the 3 Wang Takhrai Park(อุทยาน วัง ตะไคร้) with the waterfalls of the same name (entry by car 150 baht). You can rent rubber tires on site and use them to descend the cataracts of the Wang Takhrai River, an activity that is particularly popular in the rainy season and with young people. The surrounding light forest and a well-tended flower garden are also idyllic.

The northeast of the province, on the edge of the Khao Yai National Park, is a popular excursion and vacation area for Thais, especially from the nearby greater Bangkok area. In particular, along road No. 3049, which leads from the city of Nakhon Nayok towards Sarika Waterfalls and Khao Yai, there are numerous small resorts and guest houses.
