Coming from Europe, the journey is usually made via the international one Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). From there it is 120 km to Pattaya, 220 km to Chanthaburi and a good 300 km to Ko Chang, which can be overcome with shuttle minivans or public buses. There is a smaller airport in the region itself Pattaya / Rayong at U-Tapao (UTP), which can be reached mainly by domestic flights, but also directly from China and Malaysia.
The east line of the Thai Railway runs from Bangkok to Chachoengsao and then on either via Prachin Buri to Aranyaprathet (twice a day) or via Chon Buri and Pattaya to Ban Plu Ta Luang (once a day). Only slow trains run on both branches, so this is only an option for those who like to travel slowly. However, the tickets are dirt cheap.
The most common means of transport is the regular bus. From Bangkok's Eastern Bus Terminal Ekkamai (at the Skytrain station of the same name) buses run to all provinces in the eastern region.
