Sing Buri translates as "Lion City" (just like Singapore).
The village of Bang Rachan in the district (Amphoe) Khai Bang Rachan, 17 km southwest of the provincial capital, played an important role in Thai history. When Burmese troops invaded Siam in 1765 and, in the face of the unprepared and poorly organized Siamese armed forces, went from victory to victory and the then capital Ayutthaya As they got closer and closer, according to tradition, the people of Bang Rachan took matters into their own hands. They offered bitter resistance against the invaders. How much of this story is true and how much nationalistic and heroic embellishment is, remains unclear. In Thailand, however, this is not questioned, history is taught in schools and was processed into a monumental historical film in 2000, which in German-speaking countries under the title Bang Rajan - Battle of the Lost has been published.
