Murcia San Javier Airport is located approx. 4 km as the crow flies from the town center of San Javier or San Pedro del Pinatar and is located directly on the western bank of the Mar Menor.

  • Holy Week in Lorca, Semana Santa de Lorca is also as Blancos y Azules (White and blue) known. During the pageants, members of the various brotherhoods march through the streets in characteristic robes. During the big parade you can see Egyptian troops, Roman gods in heavy chariots, quadrigas, horsemen, sculptures of maidenheads and much more, dressed up as Roman emperors. In the baroque procession on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, two lay brotherhoods (the white and the blue) compete.

  • At Pimentón de Murcia it is paprika powder from the Murcia area with a protected designation of origin. It comes in nice tins and is a popular souvenir.
  • Calasparra rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a short grain rice with a protected designation of origin, Denominación de Origen (D.O.). It is grown in the Calasparra rice growing area. Irrigation is done with water from the Segura and Mundo rivers. The round grain of rice is about 5 mm in size when uncooked. Due to its extremely high absorbency, it swells up more, but is less sticky than other types of rice. The cooking time is approx. 30 minutes, with whole grain rice up to 50 minutes.

Murcian specialties are:

  • Michirones, spicy bean dish.
  • Pastel de Carne, a pastry with a meat filling.
  • Pisto, a kind of ratatouille.
  • Migas, traditional farmer or shepherd dish

  • Paparajote, lemon leaf fried in fat with batter.
