background
A low mountain range is a mountain range that is smaller than a high mountain range. The high mountain range begins in Central European climate zones from around 1200 to 2000 meters and is thus well above the highest peaks of most of the German low mountain ranges (only the Chunks in the Harz "scratches the tree line"). As a low mountain range, it must also stand out from the hill country, there must be a height difference of a few hundred meters between the highest elevation and the foot of the mountain in order to protrude from the surrounding area.
