A railway museum is a transportation museum dedicated to the theme of railway history. In addition to rail vehicles and railway technical equipment, the exhibits are mostly subject-related objects of all kinds, such as vehicles, vehicle parts, maps of the route network, tickets, course books, other historical documents, uniforms and models. Regional railway museums, which depict the history of the railway in the respective region, are widespread. These museums are often run by associations or local organizations. The history of the railroad, as a branch of the traditional history of technology, deals with the research and documentation of the history of rail transport, the associated technology and its technological development.
Some museums are affiliated with museum railways and can be found at one of the train stations of this museum railroad. For more information, see Worth seeing railways in Germany.
