Chac II is a Mayan ruin in Yucatan in Mexico.
background
Much is not known about this site. Due to the architectural styles used and the size of the complex, it is assumed that there was a settlement between AD 600 and AD 1000 with around 1,000 inhabitants. As early as 1842 this city was rediscovered by John Lloyd Stephens. But it was initially assumed that this is part of the only 2 km away Sayil and hence the name of Chikin Sayil (West Sayil) for a long time. But since there were various indications that it was an independent city, the name was changed to Chac II. The site has been archaeologically investigated and excavated since 1995.
