Map of Kabah

background

The ruined city of Kabah, whose Mayan name is probably derived from the term ahkab and thus means something like "strong hand", is valid in the Puuc region Uxmal as the main site. Most of the buildings are in the classical period between the 6th and 9th centuries. AD. A royal industrial kitchen was discovered here in 2011. In this 40-meter-long and 14-meter-wide kitchen, more than 30,000 objects, including stone tools and remains of walls, were discovered.

getting there

By plane

The closest airport is undoubtedly the one in Merida. Alternatively there is the in Campeche, but it also has a poorer road connection to the greater distance.

In the street

From the center of Merida and from the airport you drive in a south-westerly direction Uman. Here you turn in a southerly direction (direction Xtepen and Uxmal) and after 5 km cross the MEX 180 onto the MEX 261, which you now follow for approx. 80 km. You pass it after 55 km Uxmal.

From the 2nd class bus station, a bus drives along the MEX 261 and has its destination next to Uxmal also Kabah to offer as support.

Kabah lies between Sayil and Uxmal at the Ruta Puucconnecting some Puuc style Maya sites.

Tourist Attractions

In general, a distinction is made between the east group and the west group, whereby the west group is currently not open to the public. This is not a problem, as the actual attractions can also be found in the eastern group:

  • Codz Poop. Palace of the Masks. A 45 meter long building with numerous mask reliefs and figures. There is a large square in front of the palace.
  • Segunda Casa. The second house.
  • Teocalli
