The oldest finds point to settlement activities in the 10th century. v. Chr. From then on there was steady growth until 250 AD. However, when the volcano Ilopango erupted in the immediate vicinity, the entire city was abandoned. But in the 5th century. AD was repopulated again. But in the 4th century. AD there was repopulation and the city expanded rapidly. Some finds indicate an intervention or at least intensive trade contacts with the metropolis Teotihuacan in Mexico down. Only a few years later, the city had risen to become a regional center of power and housed 12,000 people. In the 10th century there was a sudden decline and the city lost its supremacy. The last settlement activities were under the influence of Cihuatán and passed with the fall of the city.
