background
This city (the name means something like "fortified place") was probably not founded until the 5th to 7th centuries AD and was probably similar to the one near it Chinkultic initially an allied foreign trade post for the Mayan metropolises far to the east. Nevertheless, this city made it beyond the classical period and was inhabited until the 12th century AD. It was not until 1200 AD that the city was abandoned for unknown reasons.
