Tourist Attractions
The city was very extensive. Over 8,000 buildings were registered on an area of more than 15 km². In the center there are four plazas with some buildings. Worth seeing here are:
- Temple of the Seven Dolls. The building, also known as the sun temple, was dedicated to the rain god Chac, who had a special position due to the drought that prevailed here. Noteworthy are the shadows and play of light that illuminated a certain point inside the temple at the equinox by the sun and were thus able to re-calibrate the Maya calendar every year. The phenomenon was only discovered in the 1990s.
- Xlacah Cenote. Translated this means "old people cenote". It measures 30 meters in diameter and over 40 meters in depth. Many (over 6000) offerings were found in this waterhole, which are in the museum in Merida are to be admired.
- Ecological park. Here the interaction of the ancient Maya with nature is shown.
