Kohunlich is a city in Quintana Roo in Mexico.

background

The city was probably founded in the pre-classical period around 200 BC. In the early classical phase, the largest building phase took place. Most of the buildings date from the period between 250 AD and 600 AD, and the city had around 10,000 residents at its peak. The city was abandoned around 1000 AD. Víctor Segovia was the first archaeologist to investigate the city after it was rediscovered by Raymond Merwin in 1912. This adopted the modification of the expression Cohoon ridge (Roughly means palm hill) as the name for this city. The real name of this city is not known.
