  • Mayan ruins of San Estevan. The oldest traces of settlement date from the year 800 BC. From the 3rd cent. v. The city matured into a political and religious center. It probably had this status until around 300 AD. Unfortunately, large parts of the city fell victim to road construction work. A small part could only be saved through the intervention of the archaeologists. Here you will find some buildings from the early classical period and a pyramid from the classical period, which at 15 meters is the highest remaining structure in the complex.
