Tourist Attractions

The center of the city is divided into three groups, each of which has numerous buildings. Many of them have not been exposed and are in poor condition.

  • Northern group
  • Central group. Structure 5 in particular catches the eye here. A large snake-mouth facade can be seen around a central entrance. The corners are rounded and covered with numerous Chac (rain god) masks. The building is in very good condition.
  • Southern group. This is where Hormiguero's most famous building is located under the name Structure 2. In the center there is again a snake-mouth facade, which is not as well preserved as the one on structure 5, but is significantly larger. The central building is framed by two large towers with so-called false stairs. All in all, Structure 5 is a very well preserved and perfect example of the Rio Bec style.
