background
The oldest traces of settlement go back to the seventh century BC. BC back. Even in the pre-classical period, this place developed into a supra-regional size. But the dominance fell asleep again until the late classical period, when the place flourished again. In the general chaos of the following years, the population of this city steadily decreased until the place was finally completely abandoned in the 13th century AD. In 1934 the place was first mentioned scientifically by Karl Ruppert and John Denison.
getting there
By plane
In the street
The archaeological site is practically directly on the MEX 186. If you drive from there by car Chetumal in the direction of Escárcega, the site is about 4 km after the village of Xpujil on the right, about 500 m off the road. There is a sign at the MEX 186.
There are bus connections from Chetumal With Xpujil and Escárcega with Xpujil. From here it is possible to cover the last 4½ km by taxi.

Tourist Attractions
Many buildings are built in the Rio Bec style. There are also a number of apparent towers to be seen here. It is interesting that the place is completely surrounded by a moat through which there are seven entrances to the city. This probably already existed in the pre-classical period.
