background
The oldest inscriptions date from the 6th century AD, but there are inscriptions that indicate a king in the 3rd century AD. It can be assumed that the history of this city goes back a long way to the early classical period. In the 7th century AD, the city got more and more into a military conflict Palenque for regional supremacy. First you suffered a defeat in 687 AD, but in the 90s of the 7th century AD you could defeat Palenque three times. The early 8th century brought a further increase in power. They pulled again victorious against Palenque into the field and even interrupted the royal line, so that Palenque was governed for years. There are also indications of successful military conflicts with Calakmul. In 725 AD attempts were made to continue to influence the river Usumacinta in what is today Guatemala stretch and grabbed Piedras Negras In the course of the 8th century AD, further successful campaigns against smaller towns and Palenque. In the 9th century AD, the inscriptions became rare and the last inscription dates from the early 10th century AD. Unlike in the other classic cities in Chiapas, archaeological finds here indicate settlement over further centuries.
